Pinoy RN, Why Rush to go Abroad?

People say that the answer of poverty is to send their children in Nursing School take the Board exam (Local and International) and encourage them to go abroad, apply the first class hospitals to earn the eyeful green colored-money. Yes, it is really indeed true. But how come the people think that working here in our own country doesn’t contribute well in the living among Nurses?

In our present situation, when you are working in a government agencies, it is a great pleasure among individual. Why? – Because more benefits offered to government worker than the workers among private agencies as they would say “Name it and you can avail it”. How about the persons behind the Medical Field? Are they got an appropriate salary for their service?

Statistical shows that 9 out of 10 registered nurse in our country, had already plan to go abroad after they reach the minimum experience to be qualify in the position offered outside the country. Yes, huge hospitals (private or government-own) may pay higher but, it is still a huge difference to what nurses may earn in abroad.

As a guide, below is a representation of the average salary of Filipino Nurses earn in the Philippines and Filipino Nurses can be earn in abroad

Type of Institution Average Starting Salary US Starting Salary(Registered Nurse)
Clinics and Small Privately Owned Hospitals P170 – 250/day or P4K – P5K/month US $3,250 or equal to P 150K/month
(Government Operated) Provincial Hospitals and Health Centers P5K – 7K/month -do-
Privately Owned Hospitals (300 Bed capacity of More) P5K – P7K/month -do-
Government Hospitals (300 Bed Capacity of More) P6K – P9K/month -do-

clinics and small private hospital pay least and large government Hospital pay much higher among Nurses but in abroad particularly in US, annual salary of the local Nurse can be earn just in a month.

The difference among this institution aside from limited offers, small privately hospital and clinics constantly hiring because there is fast turnover of Nurses since the employee constantly leaving for abroad and large hospital has its own process before hiring applicants as they consider the best workers. One of the processes, the applicant must undergo Pre-service training and pay 3k-7k to administration, service rendered and expect zero salary.

As the chart presented, it is a self-explanatory presentation why Filipinos’ want to go abroad and take up Nursing as a course. In the end, “Practical Reason for a Pauper Workers”..
