Hemodialysis Training Program for Nurses 2012
By: Elaine T. Medillo, RN
Hemodialysis nurses assist patients in kidney failure, through dialysis treatments. By becoming certified your patients and peers will know that you have the knowledge to attain this credential, and have earned the respect that comes with it. For some nurses, being a hemodialysis nurse is really challenging and it’s a big advantage if you want to pursue your career in abroad- US.
Nurses prime the dialyzer and bloodlines, ready the machine, cannulate accesses, initiate treatment, cleanse and dress permcaths and temp caths, monitor the patient, secure blood works and terminate treatment. How much percentage of registered nurses is really expert on this? Maybe I can just count in by my finger.
In the Philippines, there are people who want to help registered nurses to be proficient in hemodialysis and ensure the quality of learning. This program is organized by B. Braun Avitum Philippines and Aesculap Academy, which is endorse by Renal Nurses Association of the Philippines, Inc. (RENAP).
Organizers ensure that participants should be able to:
- Apply the principles of hemodialysis in a dialysis facility;
- Operate hemodialysis devices, water systems and reprocessing machines;
- Practice infection control;
- Provide patients with safe and efficient care;
- Safeguard patients’ vascular accesses;
- Coherently discuss hemodialysis with patients;
- Demonstrate safe venipuncture techniques.
As early as now, you should try to catch up their schedule.
