A new uniform for students at the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery, King’s College London, was unveiled last week during the annual memorial service for the founder of nursing at Westminster Abbey. London College of Fashion students worked with trainee nurses to come up with designs for the Fashioning the Future Nurse project. The winning design, by Pandora Howard-Griffin, was chosen because of its comfort, style, innovative use of hidden pockets and versatility for use by men and women. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who gave the sermon at the service, is pictured taking tea with students wearing the prototype uniform. The uniforms and hats were developed as part of nurses’ training programme and are not intended to be used in practice.
