CHED Warn 152 Schools to Improve Performance
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) was able to classify substandard nursing institution during a successive validation conducted to every nursing school in the country. There are a total of 152 out of 456 nursing schools forced to be foreclosed by CHED if they will not improved their passing rate in the coming nursing board examination. Mr. Emmanuel Angeles, chairman of CHED says that “Shape up or be phased out”.
These low-performing nursing schools passing rates are based for the past five years of having non-standard rating as set by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC). CHED is very serious on shaping up these schools that they will not hesitate to enforce the regulation if they fail to improve their performance rate.
“With this move, we are helping not only the parents and students to carefully choose the nursing schools they go to, but we are also helping our economy my minimizing frustrations and wastage among our nursing graduates when they take the licensure tests and make sure that they only get quality education,” Mr. Emmanuel Angeles added.
The initial warnings to these schools that are in troubled performance are having below 46.14% National Passing Rate. The CHED stressed out that they had all the legal authority to foreclose nursing program if they will not improve in the licensure examination. It’s the nursing schools responsibility to produce effective nursing graduates which is measured by passing the PRC nursing licensure exam.
The issuances of warning for this school year are based on the performance in the licensure examination for the three consecutive years whose performance is greater than 50% but lower than national passing rate though the Resolution No. 378-2009.
For the Higher Education Institution (HEI) who got ZERO percent national passing rates in the three consecutive years will be foreclosed while those who got 50% higher performance but lower than national average will have their recognized programs downgraded to permit status.
